Pastors and Called Workers

Rev. Rodney Serbus

Senior Pastor

Pastor Rod Serbus was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended Concordia Seminary (St. Louis) and there found his love for the preaching event. At seminary, he also found the love of his life, Deaconess Phaedra. Pastor Rod and Phaedra have four children who enjoy spending time together in motion, whether inside or outside. Pastor Rod enjoys the study of homiletics, hunting, shooting (pistol, rifle, archery), photography, and weight lifting. He has been blessed to be a husband, father and pastor, and finds great joy in each vocation.

Rev. Benjamin Leeper

Associate Pastor

Pastor Ben was born in Plano, Texas. From the time he was young, he knew that he wanted to be a pastor, but it wasn’t until he had the opportunity to share the gospel and teach the faith while working at a summer camp that Ben decided to pursue pastoral ministry in earnest. He met his wife, Emily, while in college and in 2018, they graduated from Concordia University Nebraska, married, and then moved to Concordia Seminary in St. Louis to complete his education. On July 16, 2023, Pastor Ben joined Bethlehem where he was ordained and installed as Associate Pastor. His interests include playwrighting, theatre, podcast editing, videography, mixology, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and the study of the church (ecclesiology). Ben and Emily have two cats and have purchased their first home.

Jan Steinbrueck

Director of Christian Education

Jan came to Bethlehem to complete her internship and became full-time as Director of Christian Education in August 2019. She was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and attended Concordia University, Nebraska for undergrad. In her free time, Jan enjoys playing guitar, going on walks with her dog, Jax, and whipping up something new in the kitchen. She loves interacting with people of all ages at church, but especially loves spending time with the Sunday School and youth group kids. There is nothing better than seeing kids grow in their faith and realize the great plans that God has for them in their lives!

Secretary

Bethany Malone

Bethany Malone

Office Secretary

Bethany has been a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over a decade and has been active in church events, meals and choir for most of that time. While born in Tacoma, WA and raised in Cincinnati, OH, she considers herself a die-hard Wisconsinite and never left once she came up for school. She graduated from University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and worked as a brand strategist and project manager for eight years at a Madison ad agency while growing her family. She joined the staff at Bethlehem in 2024 as the church office secretary and is excited to share her love for Christ and this congregation while also spending more time with her two kids, Georgia and James. When not in the office, you can find her and her husband, Joe, cooking, baking or grilling up a new recipe. Feel free to stop by the office and say hi!

Music Leaders

Amanda Tetzlaff

Music Director

Amanda Tetzlaff is a born and raised Wisconsin girl (a diehard Packers, Brewers & Badgers fan!). She left the state for college, where she attended Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota. But she quickly returned after graduating and has called the Madison area "home" ever since. The daughter of a LCMS pastor, Amanda is no stranger to church involvement; she started getting involved at Bethlehem Lutheran in about 2007. After already leading children's music, the children's Christmas program, accompanying choir, and filling in on organ, she accepted the call to add Music Director to her list of duties. She figures she owed it to her parents for all those years of paying for piano lessons growing up!

Annalisa Meyer

Organist

Annalisa Meyer lives in DeForest with her husband and two small children. She has studied piano since elementary school, and continued lessons through college. She studied oboe beginning in middle school and continued on through college, playing with Madison’s Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra in high school, and later in Edgewood College’s community band. She joined Bethlehem’s adult choir, and soon after began accompanying the choir on piano. In 2012 she began playing organ for Bethlehem. She looks forward to many years serving God and His family through music. Annalisa and her husband Russell have been members of Bethlehem since 2005.

Tim Borgstrom

Contemporary Worship Leader/Director

Tim joined Bethlehem as the Contemporary Worship Leader/Director in August 2016. He and his wife Cindi have two daughters; Zoë and Hallie. Tim enjoys geocaching, playing sports and board games. In addition to being a worship director, Tim has been serving as a missionary since 2003 with a collegiate ministry called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. He is a licensed life coach and enjoys helping people overcome obstacles to find greater fulfillment in life and ministry.
